In February 2005, The Hamilton Spectator launched a new business unit, unique to the newspaper industry, called Go Cooking.

In a demonstration kitchen housed right on the ground floor of The Spectator’s production facility, participants have the opportunity to take a seat at the chef’s table and watch some of the area’s leading culinary experts prepare a delicious menu right before their eyes.  As each event is limited to only 24 participants, guests share the unique experience of interacting with the chef as the food is prepared.  Best of all, everyone delights in taste-testing their own sample portion of each dish, which is accompanied by a perfectly-matched wine sampling, hand-picked by our professional sommelier.

Events vary in price, with most in the $55 per seat range, and home-delivered subscribers to The Hamilton Spectator enjoy a discount.  Themes range from bistro to ethnic specialties and everything in-between.

Go Cooking has been an overwhelming success, with events consistently selling out each week since its launch.  In response to customer demand, new Go Cooking initiatives continue to be offered.  These include popular afternoon Creative Kitchen classes, in which small groups of participants learn about kitchen skills and techniques in an informal, interactive setting.  Topics range from canning and preserving to gluten-free baking.

Go Cooking also welcomes corporate/private events, offering team building, client appreciation opportunities, and family celebrations to those seeking a unique dining and entertainment experience.

Our newest feature is our Wine Tasting program aptly called “Sips, Tips and Tidbits”.  Sommeliers offer a tour through some of the world’s finest vineyards while local food providers pair a tidbit food sample to complement the wines.
